Therapy for Grief and Loss

Whether anticipating a loss, dealing with a recent loss, or trapped in a past loss, assistance is available for you.
Anticipatory Grief
Picture
It can be quite painful to witness someone you love decline physically or mentally.  And being a devoted caregiver can be exhausting on many levels.  If you are anticipating the loss of a loved one, you are likely already dealing with small or big losses along the way.  It can be helpful simply to take a break and have someone to talk to and listen.  We can also develop some strategies to make this time of your life a little easier to bear.

If you are dealing with a terminal health issue, you are likely anticipating many losses all at once.  Anxieties, adjusting to physical concerns, and stressful decision making can be part of this stage of life.  Often it can be useful to talk things over with someone who is not directly affected by your illness and can listen, completely focused on you.

Recent Loss

Have you lost someone important in your life?  You may be feeling numb, tired, empty, or angry.  All kinds of emotions can make us feel that the rug has been pulled out from under us when we are grieving.  We can talk together to support you during this time, and help you adjust to life without your loved one.

Prolonged, Complicated Grief
Sometimes people become "stuck" in their grief, and find it difficult to move forward with life without their loved one.  You may find that life seems to have no purpose, and continues to be full of painful memories and yearning for the past when your loved one was healthy and present.

We can work together to help you move forward and begin to live a life with purposeful activity and meaningful relationships.
