Treating Anxiety Disorders with Exposure Therapy

Picture
Exposure therapy for anxiety disorders has a long history and a strong evidence base.  Your therapists can learn how to successfully treat Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, Panic and Agoraphobia, and Specific Phobias with this cognitive-behavioral therapy, by modifying the general techniques specifically for each disorder.  Exposure treatment involves helping clients to safely confronting their fears and learn that anxiety decreases over time, and feared disastrous consequences do not occur.  Repetition develops client confidence and success in conquering their fears.  The outcome is often decreased symptoms, increased functioning in life activities, self-competence, and expansion of the client's life.

Grief and Prolonged/Complicated Grief Therapy

Picture
Do your therapists work with individuals anticipating a loss, dealing with a recent death, or stuck in a past loss?

Dr. Lichner has experience in working with individuals experiencing grief, individuals and family members facing the death of a loved one, and complicated or prolonged grief lasting years after a loss.  Having worked for several years at the Joan Karnell Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, and developing a bereavement program, Dr. Lichner understands the complexities of a sudden traumatic loss, losing a loved one slowly over time, the demands of caregivers, and prolonged grief that interferes with living a satisfying life without an important loved one.
